An exciting opportunity for an experience nurse to join the Myeloid team within the Haematology department at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust a a Band 6 Specialist Nurse.
The Myeloid Team is a multidisciplinary team based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford. It provides care for our local patients and tertiary level care for the Thames Valley region. The team includes several clinical staff of international repute, and the post holder will liaise with our inpatient, outpatient, ambulatory and research units. We believe in patient-centred care, so our patients receive high class, personalised treatment. Patients looked after by the team include those with acute leukaemia (AML and ALL) together with a range of myeloproliferative disorders including CML, myelofibrosis, essential thrombocythaemia and polycythaemia. The treatment of all of these disorders is going through an era of rapid progress and development, so this gives the post-holder the opportunity to help develop a world-leading clinical service for this important group of patients.
Specific funding is available to support and advance education and personal development. After embedding into the service, courses and further study will be supported on approval with the clinical lead and senior nurse manager.

Main duties of the job
Specialist Nurses will:
- Be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient caseload.
- Provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
- Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to approved protocols or guidance.
- Contribute to the smooth running of the Myeloma service.
- Work across departmental boundaries.
- Liaise with other hospital and community teams along agreed pathways to support the delivery of patient and family centred care.
- Contribute to the on-going development of the Myeloma and wider Haematology service.

Provide expert nursing care to patients referred to the myeloid service.
Specifically, this would include:
- Work independently in outpatient clinics with cancer patients throughout their pathways. This may incorporate both independent nurse-led face to face and telephone-based consultations alongside the traditional model of outpatient patient care.
- Liaise closely with other healthcare providers such as DGHs and Community hospitals and GPs to coordinate referrals and ensure effective detailed communication for treatment.
- Provide clinical advice in accordance with current evidence based practice
- Help to co-ordinate clinical care in line with cancer targets. This will involve communicating with the patient and other members of the clinical team in day treatment and clinical wards to deliver treatment pathways.
- Assess the needs of patients, their families, and other carers, in collaboration with other members of the multidisciplinary team, and providing specific advice or support as appropriate utilising local and national guidance and documentation.
- Be a defined point of contact for patients/carers for defined episodes/pathways of care and provide specialist nursing advice and psychosocial support.
- Assess health and psychosocial needs of individual patients, and provide care to meet these needs, through a process of shared decision making.
