Job summary
This is a split post between Orthodontic and Restorative specialities. Working as part of a multi-disciplinary laboratory team, the post-holder will be responsible for carrying out the planning design and construction of a broad range of primary orthodontic and restorative appliances for the Trust's patients using analogue and CAD/CAM techniques. A close working relationship is expected with the wider multi-disciplinary clinical teams to deliver a high quality, effective and efficient service.
*Please note - that prior to interview, a Values Based Interview will be carried out with the applicants. If successful at VBI then an interview will follow - including a same-day trade test. Applicants will be asked to bring their own work instruments on the day.
Main duties of the job
Following a prescription, assess individual units of work prior to construction for possible technical/clinical complications relating to the construction of custom-made appliances, and effectively communicate ways of over-coming them with relevant members of the laboratory and clinical team assuring quality of all appliances constructed.
Complying with the Trust's, Departmental, Medicines and Healthcare Regulation Authority (MHRA) and Medical Devices Regulation (MDR) procedures, the post-holder will be expected to autonomously deliver an Orthodontic and Restorative Laboratory Service under the guidance of the laboratory manager and specialist technical staff.

ORTHODONTIC DUTIES
To support the Orthodontic and Cleft Lip and Palate clinicians within the Trust, the post-holder will be required to carry out the planning and co-ordination of personal work allocation daily to include:
- The construction of analogue and digital Orthodontic Study Models, working models and snap study models.
- The PAR Scoring of Study Models
- The construction and repair of a range of removable and fixed primary Orthodontic appliances to include Hawley Retainers, appliances with springs and/or screws, fixed Trans-palatal Arches, Quad Helixes etc
- Depending on experience and competency, the construction of functional appliances to include Medium Opening Activators and Twin blocks.
- The manufacture of same day analogue and digital and pressure formed retainers.
- The construction of Study Models and prototype appliances to support the Regional Cleft Lip and Palate Service
RESTORATIVE DUTIES
To support the Restorative and Cleft Lip and Palate Restorative clinicians within the Trust using analogue and digital systems to include:
- The construction of working models using analogue and digital methods to support the laboratory team.
- The construction of partial and complete bite registrations and analogue and digital special trays.
- Mounting models on simple hinge and semi adjustable articulators using bite registrations and facebows.
- The setting up of teeth for partially dentate and edentulous denture patients.
- Flask, pack and finish analogue dentures in heat cured acrylic.
- Plan, design and construction of vinyl and acrylic splints for TMJ dysfunction.
- The manufacture of same day repairs/relines and additions.
- The design and construction of diagnostic wax ups using analogue and digital techniques.
General Duties and Responsibilities
The post-holder will be required to:
- Plan and co-ordinate personal work allocation on a day-to-day basis
- Support their line manager to make efficient and effective use of resources in a manner consistent with laboratory, departmental and Trust objectives and policies.
- Assist in the administration of laboratory work as required maintaining the strictest confidence in relation to personal related information of patients.
Assisting with the day-to day workflow within the laboratory, using the laboratory database to locate and deliver work to the clinics.
