Job summary

We are recruiting to the substantive position of Matron for the Critical care, Anaesthetics, Preoperative assessment and Resuscitation Directorate (CAPR) at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Directorate Matron role will join the Clinical Director and Directorate Manager to form the Directorate team. The Directorate team will work closely with an experienced, friendly, diverse, and inclusive set of Departmental Leads. The successful applicant's primary focus will be Critical Care across two OUH sites. OCC on the John Radcliffe Hospital site provides care to patients as part of the regional Trauma and Vascular Centres for the Trust, whilst the 8-bedded Churchill Intensive Care Unit (CICU) supports maxillofacial surgical, cancer and organ transplant surgery. Additional specialties include haematology, renal and urology infectious diseases, endocrine and respiratory medicine. The Department of Preoperative assessment (POA) is based at the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Horton Hospitals. The Nuffield Department of Anaesthetics is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The Resuscitation Department is based at the Churchill Hospital. All four Departments provide a Trust-wide service.

Main duties of the job

We are seeking an individual with proven ability and enthusiasm to initiate, implement and evaluate change both clinically and managerially. We welcome applications from a highly skilled and talented nurse leader to join our dedicated and patient-focused team to play an integral part in the further development of our services.

The postholder will provide professional and management leadership to all nursing staff in the CAPR Directorate. As part of the Directorate Leadership Team, the Directorate Matron will work across organisational boundaries to achieve the Trust's priority objectives, and to deliver local and national standards and strategies. The appointee will play a key role in delivering the Directorate's workforce, governance, and digital agenda.

The postholder will work with the Directorate Manager and CD to deliver the Directorate's strategic objectives.

  1. Shape the ongoing development of the OUH's general adult critical care services.
  2. Consolidate the development of a Trust-wide Preoperative assessment (POA) service.
  3. Lead on Governance work at the Directorate level.
  4. Support Trust priorities for elective and emergency surgery.
  5. Support the Development of Digital developments to improve patient care.
  6. Develop Clinical Leadership training/opportunities across the Directorate.
  7. Progress an Estates strategy for the Directorate.
