Job summary
The purpose of the Research Facilitator is to support primary healthcare staff in the delivery of NIHR portfolio adopted research studies, promote research opportunities and the value of research within Primary Care, identifying and problem-solving barriers to study delivery, and to work closely with academic study teams. The post holder will work closely with the Primary Care Portfolio Manager and all members of the Research Facilitator Team to increase, facilitate and sustain the delivery of NIHR CRN portfolio studies within a specific area. The role is home based with an expectation to be based at the NIHR CRN TVSM offices at Unipart, Oxford at least once a month for meetings. The role requires frequent travel to GP practices across the Thames Valley and South Midlands region.
Interviews will be held remotely. There will be two interviews - a VBI interview and if successfully passes VBI, a technical interview to follow. VBI will be 24th October, and technical on 27th or 28th Oct. For candidates who pass the VBI interview, they will be required to do a 5 minute presentation on the following topic "How would you approach engaging research naive practices in research". Develop good working relationships with research active and research interested healthcare staff to enhance and develop the success of NIHR CRN TVSM Primary Care
- Work with academic partners to develop and prepare Research Information Sheets for Practices (RISPs) for prospective studies
- Promote research opportunities to practices and encourage their participation
- To work in conjunction with Primary Care Portfolio Manager and Research Facilitator team to raise the profile of NIHR CRN TVSM within the locality. This may include working to develop strategies in order to overcome barriers to engagement and/or recruitment
- To maintain a working knowledge of primary care services and delivery locally, and how these can facilitate NIHR CRN TVSM's development
- To attend meetings with study representatives, primary care healthcare professionals, NIHR CRN TVSM staff and/or the R&D team, deputising for the Primary Care Portfolio Manager as required

We are small and friendly team of 5 Research Facilitators and a Divisional Support Officer, managed by the Primary Care Portfolio Manager. We are part of a larger CRN primary care team, comprising Research Delivery Manager, a team of 12 Research Nurses and GP Research Champions.

Research Delivery

- To engage with primary care health professionals and organisations in order to deliver local and national NIHR CRN objectives and targets in the set up and delivery of NIHR adopted commercial and non-commercial research studies, including site sign up and initiation visits as required
- To implement strategies and systems for quality assurance which includes audit and review of the work of research sites/teams, providing feedback, development and support as necessary
- To liaise with study teams, GP Research Champions and CRN nurse team (if applicable) to facilitate the delivery of primary care recruitment within NIHR CRN TVSM to agreed timelines and targets. This includes providing expert guidance on appropriate primary care recruitment strategies and calculating study resource needs, particularly with regards to proposed primary care service support activities
- Put in place any necessary management structure and additional documentation to support the delivery and performance management of studies (if required)
- Support GP practices to deliver clinical research which could potentially include; calling participants, running searches on the practice system, sending texts messages and completing mail outs.
Project Management
- Support and lead on the delivery of specific internal projects which align with the strategic objectives.
- Liaise with internal teams and/or external shareholders in order to deliver projects which require input from various teams.
- As project lead/support, contribute to progress updates at bi-monthly meetings
- Develop tools and resources as required to enable the team to work efficiently
Administration
- To develop, maintain and update local intelligence on the research capabilities of primary care organisations and staff in TVSM, incl. the development and maintenance of spreadsheets and other information resources as well as the production of reports and presentations for local and national stakeholders
- Participate in audits, evaluations and benchmarking exercises and suggest any change to improve standards
- To support the Primary Care Portfolio Manager in the preparation of reports
- To promote and monitor the Research Site Initiative (RSI) scheme
- To maintain accurate records of activity across the region and to report on the progress of NIHR studies
- Update live websites (google sites) with new or updated study information
- To cover the inbox activity for NIHR supported commercial research when the Primary Care Commercial Manager is out of office
Education and Training
- To become an expert in training on topics that are relevant to the delivery of NIHR research
studies, including the delivery of GCP training courses as appropriate
- To assist in the education and training of health care professionals to enable them to support NIHR CRN activities and recruit effectively to clinical trials where appropriate
- To maintain an up to date knowledge of research related topics particularly related to clinical trials and the activities of the CRN
