Research Midwife

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

We are seeking an enthusiastic, ambitious, research midwife to join an exciting new project - DREaMED (Defining, Recognising and Escalating Maternal Early Deterioration): Decreasing inequality through improved outcomes. The project is jointly led by Professors Peter Watkinson (OUH) and Marian Knight MBE (National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit) and funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR). The project aims to improve maternal outcomes and decrease inequalities by finding better ways of describing, detecting, and treating women when they become unwell during pregnancy and around giving birth.

Together we will work with experts to define new near miss and severe morbidity definitions allowing us to identify electronically when significant events happen. We will develop a large multi-centre maternity routine dataset for the first time. This will allow us to work out the best vital-sign-based early warning score. It will also allow us to build an electronic maternal early warning score, harnessing the power of artificial intelligence to use all the information in the electronic patient record to best identify who is at risk of deterioration. We will then investigate how to use this information to escalate the care of women in need optimally. In a multi-site study we will test whether using this system and escalation pathways leads to better outcomes.

Main duties of the job

This is a full-time vacancy, but part-time or job shares will be considered, initially until 1 January 2027. The post will be based at the Kadoorie Centre, in the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford.
