Job summary

A whole-time post as Locum Consultant in Urology is available from January 2024 at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The appointment is on a whole-time basis, but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.

Any person who is unable for personal reasons to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post. If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis, in consultation with consultant colleagues. Suitably qualified job-share candidates will receive serious consideration.

Main duties of the job

The post holder duties will be at the Churchill hospital but presence will be required in other parts of the Trust including the John Radcliffe and Horton Hospital. The clinical work will include core urology, and a subspecialty interest to reflect the service need would be advantageous.

About us

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be encouraged to teach clinical students and train junior doctors during clinical activities. An input into research is not expected as part of this post, but research opportunities are available within the Trust, and appointees can apply for honorary status with the Nuffield Department of Surgery.

  • Full GMC registration
  • FRCS (urol.)
  • CCT in Urology

Desirable

  • Higher Medical Degree

Experience

Essential

  • General training in Urology to specialist level or equivalent
  • Ability to make decisions at consultant level

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Sufficient leadership within an organizational and knowledge of national access targets
  • Communication, professional and personal skills to undertake effectively the role of consultant in Urology in a large teaching hospital.
  • Good personal and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of teaching undergraduates and trainees
  • Experience of routine clinical audit

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the organisation of the NHS and Government's agenda for its modernisation.
  • Computing skills: ability to use Word processor, spreadsheet programme and web browser.
  • Management training and experience
