Job summary

The OUH is establishing a Targeted Lung Health Check service for Oxfordshire, and we are looking for a Nurse to work with the team.

This is a unique opportunity to transform and improve the health of our local populations through a nationally directed initiative - the 'Targeted Lung Health Check' programme. The aim of the project is to provide a lung health check assessment (with low dose CT where clinically indicated) with a view to diagnosing lung cancer at an early stage. CCGs have been selected nationally based on deprivation, presentation of late stage and rates of lung cancer mortality. Patients between the ages of 55 to 74 with a smoking history will be invited to attend for the lung health check. There have been earlier pilots which will provide a wealth of knowledge to learn from.

The service will be provided on mobile units across Oxfordshire to deliver the service closer to the community. The job would involve working with the team on the mobile units and at the base site of the Churchill Hospital.

This work will give the successful candidate an extraordinary opportunity to contribute to a team, to deliver a different kind of work to identify asymptomatic people, providing early diagnosis of both lung cancer and other diseases and then planning appropriate follow-up.

Main duties of the job

The overall purpose of the Targeted Lung Health Check Programme is to enable the early detection of lung cancer in order to save lives.

The post holder will be expected to support the nursing team to deliver the TLHC service and provide care to the patient and their carers. They will support colleagues in the effective management of patients in this specialist area alongside clinicians and healthcare professionals.
