Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Infection Prevention Team at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. We have recently been appointed as a designated centre for National High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID Airborne Network). We are looking for the right person to provide specialist advice and expertise to support the safe pathway of suspected and confirmed HCID patients across our Trust. The post holder will be an experienced qualified nurse, with a recognised teaching qualification or equivalent experience, This is a brand new post and the post holder will need to be able to work autonomously but will be supported by the MDT.

Main duties of the job

The main duties will include:

  • Working with the High Consequence Infectious Disease (HCID) Leads to implement the HCID SOPs.
  • Participation in HCID guideline and policy developments, adhering to good governance
  • Embedding education initiatives including simulation-based learning and debriefing
  • Leading and taking continuing responsibility for the in-service HCID development of all relevant staff working within the Adult and Paediatric Critical Care areas (including Emergency Department, Intensive Care and Infectious Diseases ward) environment including maintaining a PPE training schedule
  • Providing leadership and motivation to establish research or evidence- based clinical practices, leading to standard setting and regular audit
  • Monitoring and reviewing clinical and professional standards of care, reporting on performance, and instituting remedial action where necessary
  • Taking an active nursing lead role within the National HCID Network, including centre coordination and attendance at network meetings

The post holder will be a member of the Infection Prevention Team and will work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure preparedness, safe care of patients and staff.

  • The HCID nurse is a specialist clinical practitioner with oversight of a broad range of infection prevention and control issues/HCID matters. They will provide advice, education, and support on all aspects of HCID to the diverse range of departments, patients, and staff.

  • They will be competent in the delivery of training and audit programmes.

  • To lead, facilitate, support, and monitor the development and implementation of HCID projects in line with the Infection Prevention and Control annual programme when required

  • Always act as the patient's advocate in promoting, and delivering the highest standard of nursing care, ensuring all fundamentals of care are addressed, and current relevant policies and procedures are adhered to in relation to infection prevention and control.

  • The post holder will assist in the analysis of data and the preparation of results for reporting and dissemination of data by working with the multidisciplinary teams.

  • The post holder will be an employee of the OUHFT and may be required to work at any of the four sites/satellite units within the trust.

  • The post holders specialists skills may be required outside of core working hours so and therefore employees will be required to work evenings, nights, weekends and bank holidays on occasion.
