Job summary

A rare career developing opportunity has arisen on the Blenheim Head and Neck ward, based at the Churchill Hospital, for a deputy sister/ deputy charge nurse to join the team.

Main duties of the job

The Blenheim Head and Neck ward has 15 beds specialising in elective head and neck cancer surgery. There are four surgical specialities that are covered by ward, these are Ear, Nose and Throat; Maxillofacial; Plastics and Endocrinology. Working with us you will grow in competence in your knowledge of looking after patients with a range of surgical needs including complex airways, life changing surgery; speech and communication challenges and nutritional needs. You will have the opportunity to work very closely with the multi-disciplinary team to achieve the best patient outcomes. We are a small but dedicated team committed to team work and providing excellent patient care and we are proud to have recently been awarded the Gold Award in the OUH clinical accreditation scheme, the OxSCA's.

They should be able to use their own judgement to resolve issues, have a tactful, sensitive approach to people and have excellent team work skills. They should be able to work well under pressure with a flexible approach to their shift pattern as it will include a mixture of days and nights alongside the other deputy sisters.

The Deputy Sister will manage a small team of nurses including managing sickness and absences for their team, be a senior presence on the ward managing the day to day running whilst looking after their case load and will be able to deputise when the sister is absent. They will also be involved in clinical governance and incident investigating on the ward.
