Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Myeloma service based at the Churchill Hospital in Oxford.

The Myeloma Specialist Nurse will be the primary nurse providing expert nursing care for patients referred to the Myeloma service (and associated disorders) working alongside a wider nursing team of disease specific Nurse Specialists and the wider multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

Specialist Nurses will:

  • Be identified as the key worker for an agreed patient caseload.
  • Provide advice, education and support to patients, their carers and other health care professionals.
  • Practice clinically in agreed care settings according to approved protocols or guidance.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the Myeloma service.
  • Work across departmental boundaries.
  • Liaise with other hospital and community teams along agreed pathways to support the delivery of patient and family centred care.
  • Contribute to the on-going development of the Myeloma and wider Haematology service.

Essential

  • Registered nurse part 1 or 8 or 12 or 15 of register (depending on area of practice)
  • Degree in nursing, midwifery (HEI Level 5 or 6) or equivalent
  • Post graduate level working evidenced via a continuing professional development portfolio.
  • Teaching / Assessment/ Mentoring qualification

Desirable

  • Completed or completing postgraduate level (HEI level 7) study or willing undertake

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Demonstrates up to date knowledge in the specialty
  • Demonstrates clinical experience in relevant area of clinical practice

Skills/abilities

  • Previous experience of formal/informal teaching of patients and staff.
