Job summary
To be accountable for all aspects of the organisation and efficient running of the Department of Clinical Biochemistry, taking responsibility for all financial, physical and human resources.
Main duties of the job
- Ensure that all sections of clinical biochemistry carry out service functions effectively, efficiently and in timely manner, with due regard to the needs, consents and dignity of patients and relatives, delegating day to day responsibility for the individual biochemistry Managers in each of the hospital site and sections
- Ensure that optimum levels of non-medical staff and equipment within the biochemistry are maintained and deployed as required for delivery of the service
- Ensure that all scientific and professional standards are maintained, and that quality standards are achieved and maintained, delegating day to day responsibility for the latter to the Quality Manager
- Ensure that Clinical Biochemistry fulfils all ISO 15189 requirements, maintaining the unconditional accreditation necessary to enable the Trust to fulfil its commitment to cancer services
- Ensure that procedures are in place for monitoring and recording internal quality control and external quality assurance, ensuring participation in local and national schemes
- As an active member of the Pathology and Laboratories Directorate Board, participate in formulation of Directorate service plans and future strategy
- Formulate plans and future strategy to ensure the delivery of the clinical biochemistry service
