Job summary

This role will report to and support the Head of Property and Space in the provision of legal advice across all business functions to support the Trusts and individual team objectives, with a particular focus on property management, construction and PFI projects and procurement.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this role is to provide legal advice and/or facilitate obtaining legal advice from external suppliers which enables colleagues across the Trust to make timely informed decisions, meet corporate objectives and minimise the risk exposure of the business in respect of major programmes as well as business as usual.

Job description

Job responsibilities

Support the Head of Property and Space with the provision of transactional property advice such as drafting and completing leases, licenses and other forms of property documentation, letters and notices.

Enable the internal customer to make informed decisions by the provision of accurate and timely legal advice and drafting, and supporting with obtaining legal advice from external legal suppliers where necessary.

Work collaboratively with the internal customer and other legal team members to ensure accurate and understandable legal advice and documentation is provided to the business.

Enable collaboration across functions through teamwork and sharing knowledge.

Support the Head of Property and Space with provision of legal advice and preparation of legal documents relating to transactional property matters on major programmes and business as usual.

Support the management of the legal services budget and processes in place for instruction external legal suppliers.

Review payments to external legal suppliers and raising purchase orders.

Provide training and direction to new and/or junior members of the team.

Act as an informed client to external legal advisors to procure specialist legal advice.

Provide expert legal advice, translated and communicated in a clear manner which enables robust decision making across the business.

Enable collaboration across the business and remove barriers to action and deliver in a legally compliant manner.

Adhere to the appropriate governance and compliance standards for the legal profession.

Manage and advise on restrictions and consent requests to obtain overage recovery and minimise exposure to any business risk.

Advise on landlord and tenant matters acting for both owners and occupiers.

Advise on the sale and acquisition of healthcare property, including hospitals, surgeries and specialist clinics.

Advise GP practices and PCNs in relation to property matters including refinances, reconfiguration of partnership, and landlord and tenant matters.

Advise OUH on acquisitions and disposals including leasehold and freehold matters, property elements of health sector business acquisitions and sales.

Land purchase, development, sale and sub sale (working in conjunction with the Capital and Commercial Teams).
