Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity to join the information and technology (IT) team within the Cellular Pathology Clinical Service Unit at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (OUHFT). We are looking for an experienced Senior Systems Analyst / Programmer.

The department consists of Histopathology, Cytopathology and Mortuary services as well as additional specialist Osteoarticular/bone/soft tissue laboratory at the Nuffield Orthopaedic Centre.

OUHFT Laboratories are part of the South 4 Pathology Network (S4P) which is currently configuring a shared Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to harmonise working within the region. S4P also have an established Digital Pathology solution to help harmonise and manage patient samples across the region. The job will involve support and development in these areas within Cellular Pathology as well as the wider Pathology and Laboratories Directorate and South 4 Pathology

Main duties of the job

The role will involve:

Assisting and deputising for the IT Manager in the implementation of the new LIMS within Cellular Pathology and the South 4 Pathology Network.

Support and development of the current Cellular Pathology inhouse LIMS / essential databases.

Providing laboratory data for the senior laboratory management team.

  • GCSE English (5-9)
  • GCSE Mathematics (5-9)
  • IT programming qualifications

Desirable

  • Membership of an appropriate profession body for IM&T
  • Prince 2 Foundation Qualification or similar
  • Other recognised IT qualification

Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Advanced programming skills in more than 1 language
  • Evidence of management experience / training
  • Experience of systems development and maintenance
  • Experience of managing projects
  • Planning of specific projects impacting across laboratory disciplines
  • Ability to adapt and design information systems to meet business needs
  • Proficient in testing software across applications and software
  • Proficient in strategic planning, proposing policy or service change in line with system development
  • Experience with working with commercial supplier
  • Experience of using relational database programmes within a business environment
  • Experience and competent in Microsoft Office, Office 365, MS Teams
  • Practical understanding of client / server application
