Job summary
The Gastroenterology and Clinical Trials Facility (CTF) aims to deliver translational research within IBD conditions in joint ventures with NIHR, industry and clinicians. We are extremely well placed to conduct clinical trials at a local, national and international level, owing to well defined patient populations and internationally known Gastroenterologists specialising in inflammatory bowel disease [IBD].
The overall purpose of this role is to:
- To work alongside the Clinical Research Operations Manager to ensure consistent managerial, professional, clinical and advisory support to Clinical Research Nurses (CRNs), Research Practitioners(RPs) and the Trials administrative Team.
- Developing and signposting Continuing Professional Development (CPD) opportunities and the development of leadership skills for the workforce.
- Lead and participate in development work groups to support and maximise research activity.
- Directly line manage an identified group of CRNs and RPs to ensure the safety of research subjects in accordance with local policy, clinical and professional guidelines and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Guidelines.
Main duties of the job
Staffing responsibilities
The post-holder has day to day management responsibility for the CRNs, RPs and administrative team in an expanding number of small teams in Gastroenterology and Endoscopy.
Financial responsibilities
The post holder will work with the Operations manager to manage the annual NIHR LCRN funding bid for those funded through the LCRN. They will also meet regularly with OUH R&D to manage the teams commercial income which funds staffing and provides educational funding for the team.
Managerial
To develop, lead and co-ordinate the workforce, to ensure effective and smooth running of research studies.
Monthly meetings with the LCRN Research Delivery Manager to discuss planning and recruitment to the NIHR Portfolio.
Chair the monthly steering group meeting with lead Investigators and researchers to discuss, review and analyse on-going and planned clinical trials.
Write, Review and update the SOPs developed for the safe day to day running of the Clinical Trials Facility.
Deputise for the Clinical Research Operations Manager as required in their absence, to maintain effective operational management of the research workforce and activity.
Responsible for the day-to-day management of the identified research teams including recruitment, induction, personal development planning and appraisal, performance management and disciplinary issues.
Education
Identify the training and education needs of the team and support staff in their professional development.

The Gastroenterology research team sits within the Gastroenterology and Hepatology Clinical Trials Facility and run a portfolio of clinical drug trials for patients with Inflammatory Bowel Disease, together with Gastroenterologists, Industry and the NIHR Local Clinical Research Network.
The research portfolio encompasses both commercial and academic studies, single and multi-site studies and participation in international multi-centre studies.
