POST OF: VITREORETINAL OPHTHALMOLOGY FELLOWSHIP
The VITREORETINAL fellowship is available at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
This post is suitable for doctors who have completed their training but seek experience in VITREORETINAL SURGERY prior to obtaining a consultant appointment. It is not a post that is approved for training by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. Main duties of the job
Clinical
The postholder's duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford but their presence may from time to time be required in other parts of the Trust, such as the Horton Hospital in Banbury.
Teaching/Research/Audit
Oxford Radcliffe Hospitals NHS Trust is a teaching hospital Trust, and the post-holder will be required to participate in programmes for teaching clinical students, training junior doctors and in clinical examinations. It is expected that this will be an integral part of everyday clinical activity. The Oxford Eye Hospital is an internationally recognised centre of excellence in research, particularly in neonatal vitreoretinal surgery, gene therapy, electronic retinal implants and imaging. Candidates would be expected to engage in some research activity while in post. Additional funding to attend conferences will be provided if Oxford-based research is being presented, for instance, at Euretina or ARVO.
Clinical Governance
The post-holder will participate in clinical governance activities, including appraisal, clinical audit, clinical effectiveness, risk management, quality improvement activities as required by the Trust, and external accrediting bodies. The post holder will be expected to be involved in development of clinical and organisational protocols.

Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust provides a regional service for vitreoretinal surgery for a catchment population of 1 million patients, caring for both children and adults. The full range of vitreoretinal conditions are treated, in addition to novel therapies, including gene therapy, subretinal electronic implants, robotic surgery, and Paediatric vitreoretinal surgery.
In addition, we have a comprehensive range of medical retina services, covering complex macular disease clinics, a focus on OCT training /teaching as well as retinovascular diseases and genetics.
