Job summary

The John Radcliffe and Horton General Hospitals have a vacancy for a Children's Lead Nurse to cover the Emergency Departments and provision of Children's services within Emergency Medicine.

We are looking to recruit a Children's Lead Nurse who is highly skilled and motivated, who is proactive and has proven clinical and people management skills. You will need to be an ambitious individual with excellent communication skills and a professional attitude, alongside a passion for promoting and delivering compassionate high quality care as part of a large multi-disciplinary team.

You will be expected to provide leadership, support and motivation to our high performing team, using critical thinking in clinical decision making to maintain a safe and efficient environment for patients and staff. You will help to deliver key quality, performance and financial plans working closely with the senior multi-disciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide professional nursing leadership in the Emergency Department (ED)/Childrens Emergency Department (CED), leading a patient centred nursing service in collaboration with the Matrons.
  • To practice as a senior clinical nurse for a minimum of 25% of the role, with professionalism, authority and expertise, action as a role model for other nursing staff.
  • To undertake full strategic and operational responsibility on behalf of the Matrons in their absence.
  • To facilitate the efficient and effective management of resources within ED/CED.
  • In conjunction with the Matrons, to ensure that the standards of the service meet the strategic aims and development of the Trust.
  • Ensure the efficient and effective operation of the unit on a day-to-day basis.
  • Supervise and directly manage the senior nursing team in collaboration with the Matrons.
  • As part of the senior nurse group contribute to the strategic development for the unit including the utilisation of resources which impact on the budget such as staffing, equipment and consumables.
  • To lead areas of development and responsibility as dictated by the requirements of the unit.
  • To work collaboratively across the John Radcliffe and Horton sites ensuring the resources meet the patients' needs.
  • To consider and meet the needs of the adolescent group across both the John Radcliffe and Horton site.
