Job summary

The purpose of this role is to provide an efficient and high standard of clerical service within Maternity; to ensure that a welcoming and professional service is provided to patients and visitors; to ensure the smooth running of admin & clerical processes within the Maternity service.

Patient administration underpins the patient journey and supports clinical teams in delivering high quality patient care and can make a real difference to the patient experience. Effective and efficient patient administration supports management through ensuring a high standard of data quality and by making the best use of capacity and resources.

Main duties of the job

The Patient Admin Team within Maternity is looking for an enthusiastic, motivated individual to join us in delivering excellent compassionate care to the women using our service.

This role requires on site presence.

  • Maintaining databases
  • Answering phone calls, taking messages accurately & dealing with them in a timely fashion
  • Providing a compassionate service to our patients

Knowledge

Essential

  • Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Email and Word

Desirable

  • Working knowledge of a wide range of relevant hospital systems; Viewpoint, Badgernet, EPR, Scanit and Attend Anywhere
  • Knowledge of the Trusts Policies and Procedures Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection (including HFEA if required)
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology

Training & Qualification

Essential

  • GCSE English & maths
  • Excellent keyboard and computer skills
  • NVQ 3 or equivalent NHS experience

Experience

Desirable

  • Experience of working in the NHS or similar organisation
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary or busy team environment Experience of working under pressure Experience of working to protocols and procedures Experience of talking to patients/service users Experience of staff scheduling to cover needs of the service
