LOCUM CONSULTANT IN OCULOPLASTICS

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly motivated Locum Consultant Ophthalmologist to join established team of 24 Consultants and work in the Oxford Eye Hospital for a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The Oxford Eye Hospital provides an oculoplastic and orbital service to the Oxfordshire population and acts as a tertiary-referral centre, for the surrounding regions.

This post is to provide consultant-level cover in oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery. The post is based at the John Radcliffe Hospital, a neurosciences centre, which includes: neuroradiology, a children's hospital, a cancer centre and trauma centre.

This post will include 1-2 eye casualty sessions, oculoplastic clinics and theatre sessions. The candidate will be expected to to participate in the consultant on-call rota.

Main duties of the job

The postholder's duties will be primarily at John Radcliffe Hospital, but it is a condition of the appointment that the postholder will be willing to work in any of the Trust's locations.

Clinical Duties of post

Aims and responsibilities

The basis for this post is to provide oculoplastic services for the Oxford Eye Hospital. The successful candidate will be expected to continue to develop the already established tertiary referral-base and contribute to the research and teaching profile of the Oxford Eye Hospital.

Clinical

The post-holders' duties will be primarily at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, but their presence may be required in other parts of the Trust, including peripheral regional clinics.

Surgically, the post-holder will be required to perform oculoplastic, lacrimal and orbital surgery. The post holder will support the dermatology Mohs unit, by providing an oculoplastic reconstruction service. The post holder will also be required to manage paediatric oculoplastic disease.

Clinically, the post-holder will provide a comprehensive oculoplastic and orbital service. This will include participating in the joint thyroid eye disease MDT and contributing to the skull-base MDT. The post involves working in and alongside several other MDTs including orbital trauma and facial palsy.

About us

A whole-time (10 PA 40 hours) post, as a fixed-term locum Consultant in Ophthalmology is available, from August 2023 at the John Radcliffe Hospital. The ideal candidate would have post CCT Fellowship in oculoplastics and orbital surgery. This is a 12-month fixed-term appointment comprising of 10 programmed activities (PAs) and an on-call commitment. The 10 PA's are apportioned as 9 for direct clinical care and 1 for supporting professional activity. The appointments are on a whole-time/part-time basis but applications are welcome from those who wish to job share.
