Receptionist / Ward Clerk

Job summary

We require a ward receptionist to work 5 days a week, 7 1/2 hour days to cover all administrative duties on our Children's Ward.

The post holder is required to provide clerical support ensuring that the professional and caring image of the department is maintained at all times. You will receive all visitors attending the ward in a courteous manner.

You will have a broad range of administrative skills in particular the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Knowledge and familiarisation of medical terminology. Excellent organisational and communication skills and knowledge of Word, Excel, Internet and email systems are essential.

The role will also require you to receive and deal with telephone calls in a professional manner, take messages and accurately relay the messages (written or verbal) as appropriate transferring calls as required.

This position is offered as a secondment/fixed term. If you are an internal applicant, you are required to consult with your manager and obtain approvalprior to submitting your application.

Main duties of the job

Ensuring patients are arrived onto the ward with a welcome.

Booking ambulance transport for patients.

Escalating any patient queries to the nurse in charge.

Maintaining a warm and welcoming reception area for patients.

Using your initiative.

Ability to multitask and think on your feet.

Ability to use multiple computer systems.

Support the clinicians with any administration duties required.

Liaising with patients, relatives and wider teams via telephone, email and face to face.
