Antenatal Education Lead Midwife

Job summary

The lead midwife for antenatal education will be responsible for developing a strategy of antenatal education provision to meet the needs of the local population. The role will include engagement with maternity service users to get a representative view of need which is reflective of all local communities to inform the strategy. They will lead by example, offer expert midwifery clinical advice to ensure the delivery of high quality, effective and compassionate midwifery care, this will be in line with local, Trust wide and national policies, procedures, values and behaviours.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure the antenatal education offer is culturally sensitive and meets the needs of all local communities
  • Include content on personalisation of care and how to utilise the Personalised Care and Support Plan
  • Embed discussions around choice using the BRAIN acronym into antenatal education sessions
  • Plan content to support information sharing and preparation that is culturally appropriate
  • Develop an induction/training package to support wider staff groups to delivery the content
  • Ensure the antenatal education strategy reflects the Trust vision, values and objectives and is understood by all the midwifery team members
  • Ensure that any issues identified within the antenatal education provision are identified quickly and escalated appropriately
  • Facilitate the development of midwives and MSWs to support teaching, assessing and delivery of the antenatal education session
  • Maintain and utilise resources appropriately alongside communicating when equipment faults or the lack of available resources may compromise the quality of delivery
  • Maintain oversight of the programme to ensure it remains relevant and is evidence based
  • To develop a SOP to outline requirements of the antenatal education offer
  • To represent UHDB maternity services both within the Trust and at external meetings
