An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 Specialist in Emergency Medicine posts, to join our friendly, enthusiastic Emergency Department team at University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust (UHDB), based at the Royal Derby Hospital site.

We are looking for experienced and enthusiastic individuals, with a minimum of 6 years middle grade experience in Emergency Medicine, who are able to work independently as senior decision makers in the department whilst also helping to develop our service.

These are full time posts based at the Royal Derby Hospital site and any candidate who wishes to work less than full time will be considered and supported, taking into account service needs.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will:-

*Be Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients at the hospital at which you have duties

*Be responsible for the continuing care and treatment of patients in your charge and personal performance of clinical duties as agreed in your job plan, allowing for all proper delegation to and training of your staff

*Provision of an in and out-of-hours service with colleagues

*Provision of cover for colleagues during reasonable periods of leave, including care of patients and supervision of doctors in training

*Active participation in undergraduate and postgraduate education within the department

*Responsible for the professional supervision, development and management of junior medical staff, carrying out supervision, training, assessment and accreditation duties as required and contributing to postgraduate and CPD activity locally and nationally as appropriate

*Participate in clinical audit as part of quality improvement activity under local arrangements

*Ability to work as part of an MDT, contributing to clinical safety netting (eg x-ray returns) and the management of complaints and serious incidents

The Childrens Emergency Department is part of the Paediatric Business Unit, which is within the Women and Childrens Division. The senior Emergency Department team meet monthly and there is a quarterly clinical governance day and quarterlyConsultant Education day.

The post holder is expected to commit to ongoing personal development and to show a commitment to maintaining and developing skills and professional knowledge relevant to the post, and to develop a portfolio of evidence. Also to participate and fully engage in the process of appraisal, including 360 degree appraisal, and the development of a Personal Development Plan (PDP) including personal objectives.
