University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust

Charity Finance Administrator

The closing date is 19 March 2026

Job summary

Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity exists to support our hospitals by helping to improve the experience of both patients and colleagues. Thanks to generous donations, fundraising and legacies, the Charity can provide the extra items, projects and enhancements that cannot be funded through standard NHS budgets but make a real difference across our sites. This role forms an important part of the Team that helps deliver this work.

The role includes supporting the monitoring and processing of finance applications submitted by Fund Managers for the use of Charitable Funds, ensuring requests are handled accurately and in a timely manner.

The Charity is entering an exciting stage as it transitions from Corporate Trustee status to an independent organisation. As part of this growth, we are looking for someone who is motivated, organised and keen to support the Charity's future.

The post holder will work as part of the Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity Finance Team, reporting to and supported by the Charity Financial Services Manager. Duties will include processing income and expenditure, handling applications to use charitable funds, assisting with bank reconciliations, and supporting general budgeting tasks as required.

These responsibilities will be carried out using the Charity's financial ledger and customer relationship management systems. The role will involve helping to guide junior members with routine processes and procedures, contributing to a supportive working environment.

Main duties of the job

You will liaise with Fund Managers and staff, both clinical and non clinical, to help resolve queries about charitable fund applications and ensure information is clear and complete.

The post holder will assist with uploading purchase orders to the general ledger system and make sure that charitable fund orders raised through Procurement are correctly coded and recorded.

You will also support the processing of payments from the charity bank accounts, help with reconciling the cash books and monitoring cash flow.

Further duties include processing income and expenditure transactions, uploading journals and helping with budgets as directed by the Charity Financial Services Manager.

The role involves contributing to the review of existing Charitable Funds processes and procedures, suggesting improvements where appropriate to ensure tasks are completed efficiently and in line with best practice and relevant guidance.

Good communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as you will be required to deal with enquiries both over the telephone and face-to-face.

You will provide general support to the Charity Financial Services Manager, assisting with the collection of financial information needed for the year-end audit process.PREVIOUS APPLICANTS NEED NOT APPLY
