Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit two consultants in Colorectal Surgery.

Based at Royal Derby Hospital, the colorectal department provides a full range of inpatient elective and non-elective operating services, outpatient clinics and day case facilities.

There are currently 10 Lower Gastrointestinal surgeons based within the unit, supported by a team of speciality doctors, fellows, registrars, resident doctors, and clinical nurse specialists.

TAMIS, TEO, SILS and robotic surgery have been established within the Colorectal department. Our unit also offers ELAPE, complex IBD work/pouch surgery, complex endometriosis/advanced ovarian cancer (joint surgery with gynae-oncologist). The Royal Derby Hospital is a regional anal cancer centre and hosts the significant polyp and early rectal cancer MDT for management of these conditions in the Unit. We have one of the largest endoscopy departments in the country.

We are looking for two experienced, motivated, dynamic colleagues to join our colorectal department and develop the services we offer further.

Main duties of the job

This post will be based across Royal Derby Hospital and with clinical activity also delivered at community sites across Derbyshire. The post holder will have a 10 PA job plan including outpatient clinics, endoscopy, day case and inpatient operating as well as time for patient administration, ward rounds and supporting professional activities.

The post holder will provide emergency cover as part of a 1 in 9 consultant day time rota and 1:18 nights and weekends rota as well as being expected to participate in a 1:8 surgical paediatric on call rota providing 24 hour cover for paediatric emergencies.
