The Renal Dialysis Unit is a purpose built unit with 55 dialysis stations providing chronic haemodialysis and acute treatments including hemodiafiltration and plasma exchange. This is a rewarding role working closely with patients to ensure they obtain optimal care in the haemodialysis setting.
Experience is not essential as all staff are well supported by our Practice development facilitator and we have comprehensive competency packages in place for all new starters. However you must be able to demonstrate a flexible approach within the working environment and a willingness to develop clinical skills. The Unit operates Monday to Saturday from 06:30 till 00:30 and you must be flexible to cover shifts within these hours over 4 days per week.

Main duties of the job
This role involves preparing and programming the dialysis machines and related equipment for dialysis sessions, and assisting the nurse with caring for a team of patients whilst on dialysis. You will be provided with the appropriate training to learn how to do this and there may be further opportunities to progress to Nurse Associate Training and, becoming part of the on call rota for the unit.
This is a demanding role involving both technical and caring aspects. On commencement of the post, support will be provided by a mentor (an experienced technician) and the Clinical Facilitators until you are deemed competent to work unsupervised. The Clinical facilitators also provide continued support to allow you to develop your skills further. Your reliability in terms of attendance and timekeeping are essential.
You will be working alongside nurses to provide dialysis care and will ensure the needs of complex chronic patients are met.
