Specialty Doctor in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care
We are seeking Specialty Doctors, who together with 85 Consultant Anaesthetists, 1 Associate Specialist, 42 existing Specialty Doctors and 42 Specialty Trainees will provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service.
Main duties of the job
The positions will comprise of 10 programmed activities on average per week. These posts offer a variety of interests including, theatre work, obstetric anaesthesia, intensive care and resident on call duties. A willingness to work flexibly is essential. The Specialty Doctors are co-ordinated by a dedicated Consultant and the Trust has also appointed a Tutor to specifically support the educational and developmental needs of the Specialty Doctor group in all specialties.
Royal Derby Hospital a major oncology centre providing treatment for upper and lower GI, urological, gynaecological, breast and head and neck malignancies. We also host regional units for hand surgery and bariatrics, and have a large clinical commitment to major orthopaedics, trauma and emergency care with a helipad and state of the art imaging services. Royal Derby Hospital has a 16 bedded level 2/3 Intensive Care unit and a 16 bedded post-surgical step-down unit.

- MBBS / MBChB or equivalent
- Life Support Qualification - Advanced Life Support
- Full GMC Registration with a license to practice at time of application
Desirable
- Additional higher medical/scientific degree relevant to the specialty e.g. Diploma in Anaesthesia, FRCA primary
Clinical Experience and Skills
Essential
- Completed at least four years' full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least two of which will be in Anaesthesia/ITU/Obstetric Anaesthesia
- Relevant specialty clinical knowledge
- Up to date clinical knowledge in the relevant specialty & evidence of an understanding of its application
- A minimum of 6 months experience of working in the NHS
Teaching, Audit & Research Experience
Essential
- Experience of supervising and teaching junior doctors and undergraduates.
- Ability to & experience of teaching clinical skills
- Experience of & commitment to clinical audit and/or Quality Improvement Projects (QIP)
Desirable
- Experience of teaching basic clinical skills to under-graduates
- Any teaching courses or qualifications
Language & Communication Skills
