Generic Therapy Assistant

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Our stroke service is looking for a passionate and enthusiastic Generic Therapy Assistant, to work across the stroke services, at the Royal Derby Hospital, and Florence Nightingale Hospital.

You will be an essential member of an established multi-disciplinary stroke team, working flexibly to ensure optimum care for all stroke patients. You will work alongside Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists, specialising in stroke, as well as other members of the multi-disciplinary team, with a focus on assisting stroke patients through the various stages of their care.

Applicants must have relevant recent experience in a Healthcare/ Care Home environment, and must possess an NVQ level 2 or equivalent care based competencies.

There will be a requirement to cover some Bank holidays and work on a weekend rota within Stroke Services.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will have a hands-on role with patients, undertaking a variety of tasks, including assisting in the treatment of an individual or group of patients. They will perform activities that will help patients with activities of daily living, assist in improving functional independence, and aid mobility issues on the Stroke Units. They will also be expected to provide a range of housekeeping and administrative duties to support the team.

This post offers regular supervision and in-service training sessions, along with the opportunity to develop clinical competencies as part of your appraisal.

This post will offer you the opportunity to develop your skills in this clinical field, within a supportive Multi-disciplinary team (MDT) in order to support stroke patients throughout different stages of the stroke pathway.

You will be required to have strong communication skills, time management, and prioritisation skills to work as part of the MDT.
