Specialist Diabetes Dietitian - Progression post band 5-6
The closing date is 10 September 2025
Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a dietitian with an interest or experience in diabetes, to join our diabetes specialist dietetic team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB). We work across the primary sites of UHDB, and also cover a range of satellite clinics. For a new graduate, we will consider a band 5-6 progression post over 12-24 months, depending on achievement of set competencies.
We are looking for a dietitian who has an interest in the ever-advancing field of technology within diabetes, who has an affinity to technology, but also confidence in presenting to groups, running education and teaching sessions, and can adapt to fast change in pace of service. The post holder will work autonomously in delivering expert dietetic advice, but will have training as required, and receive regular supervision. You will be part of an internationally recognised talented MDT, who are striving for the best experience for patients to empower them to manage their condition. The post holder will work with all types of diabetes, including gestational and young adult.
We are currently a team of 6 specialist dietitians, with many of the team highly experienced in all aspects of diabetes, on current technology and treatments. There is a supportive environment for new team members from all members of the MDT.
Main duties of the job
Our team offer out patient services only. Our work is mainly clinic based, across the different UHDB hospital sites. We also support multidisciplinary team (MDT) satellite clinics, usually undertaken alongside consultants and diabetes specialist nurses. We see patients with any type of diabetes, and have specialised services in Young Adults, Insulin pumps, and a very large Antenatal service, covering both pre-existing diabetes and gestational diabetes. We provide 12+ DAFNE courses every year, with a mixture of face to face and remote delivery. We are fortunate to work within a very supportive MDT where dietetic input is valued and sought after. As well as outpatient clinics, we also offer carbohydrate counting workshops separately to DAFNE and weekly education groups for women with gestational diabetes. You will ensure services are delivered in a safe and effective manner and will have skills to regularly review and improve service delivery. The post holder will report directly to the Adult Diabetes Team leader. We have an established student training programme for A, B and C placements, in which you will participate, and the department encourages innovation, CPD and professional development. Car driver essential. Closing date: 10September 2025 Interview date: 24 September 2025
