Advanced Practitioner Therapeutic Radiographer (Breast)

Job summary

Applications are invited for the position of an Advanced Practitioner Therapeutic Radiographer (Breast), within UHDB (University Hospitals of Derby and Burton).

The postholder will provide expert clinical practice, advice, and support to other professionals, the wider multidisciplinary team, and patients and their families/carers, across the radiotherapy pathway from referral to treatment, and delivery and follow up for breast patients.

The postholder will work with clinician colleagues to co-ordinate the breast radiotherapy service

The postholder will act as a resource for primary and secondary care teams, ensuring continuity of care within the hospital and the community

Main duties of the job

The post holders will:

  • Oversee the pathway booking process for breast patients.
  • Undertake appropriate clinical assessment of patients prior to, during, and post radiotherapy treatment.
  • Assess, recognise, and manage radiotherapy radiation-induced toxicity and cancer-related side effects during and after treatment.
  • Provide advice, information, and education and support to patients, carers, and their families, from the point of initial referral, throughout their treatment and into late follow-up.
  • Make appropriate external referrals for patients and their families as required, before, during, and after radiotherapy.
  • Ensure that the emotional and physical well-being of patients, families, and carers, are fully considered at all times, in the context of their care, and actively participate in decision-making.
