Advanced Pharmacist - Surgery

The closing date is 17 August 2025

Job summary

Are you looking to develop your skills in expert clinical practice with the opportunity to actively contribute to MDT working, whilst working as part of a diverse team?

At UHDB, we provide great opportunities for flexible working, a supportive environment focused on staff wellbeing, and good career development.

UHDB provides care to a range of specialities including colorectal, upper GI, vascular, urology, and head and neck across our surgical wards. We have developed a range of Advanced pharmacist roles across the surgical division, and are highly regarded as the experts in medicines management. Pharmacists are actively encouraged to participate in MDT working via attendance on ward rounds, and the development of policies and guidelines.

Due to maternity leave, an opportunity has arisen to join our Surgical Pharmacy team, supporting our General Surgery business unit, with the opportunity to specialise in vascular surgery. The post holder would act as a key pharmacy contact for the business unit, supporting a range of clinical and operational projects, whilst also acting as part of the senior pharmacist team supporting the wider Surgical Division.

This post is based at the Royal Derby site, although there is an expectation that the post holder would work closely with colleagues across UHDB, in developing and delivering pharmacy services.

Main duties of the job

  • Work closely with Clinicians and Nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines within an identified surgical speciality as well as ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
  • Lead, deliver, and develop pharmacy services to surgical division in accordance with national priorities and local objectives.
  • Support the development of early career and trainee pharmacists.
  • You will act as a senior member of the surgical pharmacy team assisting with management of day-to-day operational duties as required.
  • You will act as a line manager for designated band 6 or 7 pharmacists.
  • Actively participate within regional and national network forums to facilitate harmonisation of practises and share learning.
  • The post includes weekend working, participation in the bank holiday rota and on-call.

The Pharmacy Department and Surgical Division are committed to developing the roles of pharmacist prescribers and the successful applicant would be expected to train as a prescriber and actively contribute towards improving the standards of prescribing through participation in these roles.

Closing date of applications: 17 August 2025

Interview date: 10 September 2025
