Job summary

University Hospitals of Derby and Burton's Trauma and Orthopaedic Theatres at the Royal Derby Hospital are looking for a Senior Theatre Practitioner with a high level of professionalism to help develop our wide ranging Theatre service.

Within our Theatres we cover many orthopaedic specialities in spine, trauma, upper limb, lower limb, revision surgery and foot and ankle.

The successful candidate will be expected to contribute clinically and managerially across the theatre department. The successful candidate will also either be qualified as a cell salvage operator or would be expected to have the request for the training on their PDP, along with a commitment to mentoring and preceptorship.

The successful candidate will be an integral part of the MDT and should have considerable theatre experience, be able to confidently assess, plan, implement and evaluate patient care, communicate effectively with other members of the MDT and support junior staff. You must show enthusiastic leadership skills and the ability to act as a Line Manager.

Main duties of the job

To assess, plan, implement and evaluate surgical/anaesthetic/recovery care, in a safe caring environment in which to meet the patient's needs, maintaining their dignity throughout the total episode of care. Provide individualised care, acting as the patient's advocate in all matters relating to care given in a multidisciplinary environment, within agreed policies and procedures.

Demonstrate leadership that will encourage and promote effective teamwork, provide advice and support to junior staff in the delivery of high quality care, whilst actively supporting and when required deputising for the Lead practitioner in the management of the healthcare environment.

Support innovative clinical practice, and contribute to implementing nursing policies based on National and local strategies for health care.
