Pathway Coordinator/Medical Secretary

Job summary

An opportunity has arisen within the Colorectal Department at Royal Derby Hospital for a Pathway Support Medical Secretary to support the Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialists.

In this role the post holder will provide administration support to the Colorectal Clinical Nurse Specialists. Main duties will include answering telephone calls from patients, supporting patients with queries and escalating clinical questions to nurses as required. The post holder will also support with administration tasks and editing and ensuring letters are sent out in a timely manner.

Applicants must have excellent verbal communication skills and be able to deal with patients with care and compassion.You will need to have excellent organisational skills, and good knowledge of IT systems.

Previous administration experience is essential, ideally in the NHS, however full training on IT systems and processes will be provided.

Main duties of the job

  • Editing and dispatch of clinical correspondence related to NHS medical patients within agreed timescales and quality standard
  • Be a point of contact for patients and medical staff ensuring queries are answered with skill, sensitivity and in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Knowledge of Word, Excel, T-Pro, Lorenzo, Cito and e-mail systems
  • Telephone queries
  • Working to strict Trust and Government policies
