Neuro Rotational Occupational Therapist

Job summary

We have a Secondment opportunity for a full time band 6 Occupational Therapist to join our Specialist Rehabilitation service based at Florence Nightingale Community Hospital, Derby. The post is part of our neurology rotation with the initial vacancy in the Spasticity and Neuro splinting service and Neuro Out Patient Therapy Teams. The rotation also includes in-patient neurological rehabilitation, stroke rehabilitation (acute and rehab) and our neurological in reach team. The successful candidate will have demonstrable post graduate experience within the NHS. Previous experience within neurology is essential. We are looking for someone who is keen to develop their skills in this area of practice, showing an enthusiasm for neurological rehabilitation.

We are committed to developing our staff, offering regular supervision, appraisal and clinical support from a team of experienced senior therapists. Regular in-service training sessions are available and you will be supported to develop your clinical competencies in this speciality.

The team is very supportive with a wealth of clinical experience. You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team across Specialist Rehabilitation and liaise with colleagues across health, social care and the voluntary sector to provide coordinated rehabilitation.

Main duties of the job

You will assess patients with a range of neurological conditions, developing individualised, goal centred, rehabilitation programmes to maximise independence and quality of life. This will include working within our MDT spasticity clinic and the assessment and fabrication of neuro splints. Work is within the out patient clinic setting as well as in the patient's home, community or workplace as required.

o To work as a part of the Specialist Rehabilitation Service and Occupational Therapy Team to provide a high standard of out-patient neurological rehabilitationo To perform Occupational Therapy assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical, cognitive, psychological and social needso As part of a specialist MDT, to assess and treat patients' spasticity management needs, including fabrication of neuro splintso To develop and deliver individualised treatment programmes for patientso To hold responsibility for own caseload and be responsible for a defined area of the service or a particular patient typeo To participate in the training and supervision of assistants, and in the supervision of Occupational Therapy and work experience students when appropriateo To work as part of the multi-disciplinary team to provide advice and deliver a holistic patient-centred approach to rehabilitationo To work and liaise with external agencies across health, social care and the third sector to promote partnership working
