Job summary
Applications are invited for a Substantive Consultant post in Ophthalmology with a focus on Oculoplastics as well as supporting the delivery of our substantial general Ophthalmology workload. This post will be based at the Royal Derby Hospital but with peripheral community hospitals, we expect flexibility to be able to work across sites.
All applicants should have full registration with the United Kingdom General medical Council and be included on the GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at the time of interview.
Please note that this post will close prior to the closing date if enough applications are received.
Main duties of the job
In your role you will help the Trust deliver services to patients requiring oculoplasty. You will also utilise your skill set in managing our cohort of general Ophthalmology patients for which you will be required to provide some services from our community hospital sites. You will help us deliver our elective workload in the form of regular cataract operating at one of our acute sites. We support the delivery of an adult and paediatric Ophthalmology service to patients in Derbyshire and East Staffordshire and so a suitable level of expertise will be required in managing these patients - particularly when you are on-call.
The adult Ophthalmology team operates from a purpose built eye outpatient department within the King's Treatment Centre. There is a satellite unit at the Florence Nightingale Community Hospital.
Paediatric ophthalmology services are offered in the Derbyshire Children's Hospital which is a purpose built facility including a well-equipped outpatient department, 2 dedicated theatres and 4 inpatient wards, one of which is a day case surgical ward.
The facility has dedicated orthopic support for both adult and paediatric cases.
