Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 3, health care assistant to be a part of the experienced and friendly teams in the Children's Outpatients departments working cross site between the Royal Derby Hospital and Queens Hospital Burton.
The Children's Outpatients Department is a busy area running clinics covering a wide range of specialities including General Paediatrics, ENT, Fracture and Orthopaedic, Surgery, Dermatology, Epilepsy and Diabetes as well as Nurse lead clinics and a busy phlebotomy service with no two days ever being the same.
Applicants will need to be motivated, reliable and flexible, with a willingness to learn key skills related to this post. Experience is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. Excellent communication and organisational skills are key, as is a commitment to delivering quality care to our patients.
The Clinical Support Worker is an essential role within the Children's Outpatients Department, assisting the wider multidisciplinary team with the smooth running of clinics, assisting in procedures where required and helping to facilitate a smooth journey through the department. The successful candidate will be fully trained in the running of clinics and clinical skills such as, weighing & measuring, taking and recording observations on children of all ages, venepuncture with ongoing training packages for further development of clinical skills as required.
Main duties of the job
Provide a high standard of holistic, individualised care to our patients and their families
Support all clinicians including registered staff in their duties
Undertake all clinical responsibilities allocated and training as necessary to perform these skills
Take and accurately record patient measurements and observations
Act as chaperone to clinicians
Run various clinics throughout the department including preparation of rooms, equipment and medical records
Maintain mandatory training and appraisals
Report all incidents to the nurse in charge and raise awareness through the Datix system
Participate fully in quality assurance monitoring
Have an awareness of relevant policies including safeguarding, infection prevention and control and health and safety.
