Job summary

The Occupational Therapy team at Royal Derby Hospital - are looking to appoint motivated Occupational Therapy Support workers with a passion for acute orthopaedic care. Applications are invited from those with excellent communication and interpersonal skills and previous experience as an OTA in an acute inpatient orthopaedic setting. Candidates are required to hold an NVQ level 3, Level 3 Senior Health Care Support Worker apprenticeship and/or relevant Occupational therapy Band 3/4 competencies. It is essential to hold a full driving licence to support equipment visits using a trust vehicle.

As an Assistant Practitioner you will hold a varied clinical caseload in an acute multidisciplinary setting and lead on discharge planning of elective hip and knee joint replacement patients. Previous experience of delivering Occupational Therapy in an orthopaedic setting is essential to this role.

You will have the opportunity to undertake preoperative assessment, lead group education classes as well as hold a ward-based caseload.

The service operates a 7 day service and flexibility is required to work a set pattern of hours that includes extended hours in the evenings and one day every weekend for which enhancements are payable.

Main duties of the job

  • Assessment and treatment, to include patients with a wide variety of conditions.
  • Close MDT working and discharge planning in a high-pressured environment.
  • Contribute to supporting student Therapists on placement
  • Lead discharge planning.
  • Undertake 1to1 pre op assessment and group education classes
