Job summary

An exciting opportunity has become available for a motivated and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist to join the Splint Making Workshop Team.

The post is full time but there is flexibility for consideration of part time working. This position requires post qualification experience in an acute NHS hospital setting and experience in splint making or provision of orthoses is desirable. Interested applicants with minimal splinting experience can be assured that they would be working in a respected and well-established team alongside experienced colleagues enabling skills to develop in a highly supportive environment.

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of splinting provision within a diverse, interesting and predominantly T & O case mix where no 2 days are the same. You will be encouraged to use creativity and problem-solving skills to devise the optimal splinting solutions, and you will be involved in the end-to-end splinting process enabling you to make a tangible impact on patient care and recovery.

It is helpful to have a good knowledge of anatomy and physiology.

The department has strong links with the wider Multi-disciplinary Team and you will be working as an integral part of that MDT, demonstrating excellent communication skills. Experience of working as part of a Therapy Team and /or Multi-disciplinary Team is therefore required as well as evidence of Continuing Professional Development.

Main duties of the job

To provide a high standard Occupational Therapy service to the specialist Splint Making Workshop.

The post holder will support the Trauma and Orthopaedic team providing a specialised and bespoke splinting service to both in and out-patients. There will be opportunity to supervise and support staff and students working within the team and to develop as a clinical educator.

It is a fast-paced environment so good prioritisation, delegation and time management skills along with the ability to work flexibly are essential. Involvement in service development, operational/clinical audit and research is encouraged.

The hours are in line with the service needs and may include longer days working Monday to Friday.

There will be regular supervision and relevant training offered to assist in your development.
