Job summary

We are looking to recruit an experienced and enthusiastic pharmacist to join our well respected and supportive Women's and Children's Pharmacy Team. You will be an integral part in the wider women's health, maternity and paediatric teams, and will work closely with the rest of the Women's and Children's Pharmacy Team. Together we deliver high quality pharmaceutical care to our patients with a specific focus on patient centred care and working holistically within the multidisciplinary team.

The successful candidate will be an enthusiastic and highly motivated clinical pharmacist who is able to work both individually and as part of the wider healthcare team.

The team primarily provides clinical pharmacy support to acute in-patient areas including our children's wards (which includes a PCCU), neonatal unit, gynaecology ward, maternity wards, as well as our children's emergency department and outpatient clinic areas such as fetal medicine and the children's outpatient department.

The post holder will work across all sites of University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) providing acute women's & children's services.

Main duties of the job

  • You will work closely with clinicians and nursing colleagues to support and promote the safe and effective use of medicines on a ward environment, whilst also ensuring the cost-effective use of resources.
  • You will provide appropriate paediatric prescribing advice and monitoring to all members of the MDT.
  • You will have active involvement in the development and review of policies and procedures relating to this specialist area.
  • You will have opportunities for participation in quality improvement projects relating to this specialist area.
  • You will assist the Divisional Pharmacist - Women's and Children's to manage the introduction of new drugs and treatment guidelines into the division.
  • You will assist with the management of errors, complaints and incidents in the managed section in accordance with the Trust Risk Management and Complaints Policy.
  • You will propose new clinical pharmacy service developments within the Women's and Children's Division. Where appropriate implement and monitor these developments.
  • You will also help to support and develop our team of rotational junior pharmacists and trainee pharmacists.
  • You will be given the opportunity to undertake independent prescribing. This is fully funded by the Trust, and you will be fully supported to attend study days and complete prescribing practice hours.
