Job summary

The successful candidate will be part of the Data Science function, which operates within the Business Intelligence department, offering to support the Digital Strategy and its goals around Digitisation, specifically through big data, artificial intelligence and machine learning.

The role focuses on applying advanced statistical methods and artificial intelligence to the 4 key levels of analytics; descriptive, diagnostic, predictive and prescriptive, providing high quality evaluation into the cause and effect of the complex challenges a busy Acute Trust faces.

The successful candidate will demonstrate effective communication, whilst actively participating in and contributing to a variety of trust wide projects, alongside a range of stakeholders. Alongside this, the candidate will demonstrate the technical (SQL, R, Python or similar) and time management skills required to be able to deliver high quality and accurate outputs, in line with project requirements, governance/assurance processes and deadlines. It is also key that the successful candidate is committed to their ongoing personal development, of developing their skills and knowledge, in line with Data Science training frameworks and skills standards.

As a team, in-person collaboration is encouraged and supported, therefore we have dedicated onsite team days to share knowledge and support each other, to enable the best of both worlds.

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the delivery of accurate, timely, value-added analysis to meet the requirements of a data driven Trust.

Proactively developing both quantitative and qualitative indicators to support the requirements of the clinical and corporate divisions.

To be the information lead for a designated area and provide expert support to underpin project work and decision making for the needs of a modern NHS. To promote the effective use of information, tools and reports managed by the Business Intelligence team.

  • GCSE (Grade C or above) in English and Maths or equivalent
  • Ability to write SQL queries and good knowledge of data manipulation and visualisation using Excel
  • Awareness of data science languages
  • Ability to extract and manipulate both structured and unstructured data from databases
  • xperience or relevant basic level training in using specialist analytical and data visualisation software, such as SSRS and Power BI
  • Excellent numerical skills
  • Experience in contributing towards an analytical project throughout the entire lifecycle
  • Inquisitive approach to solving problems collaboratively.
