Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a fully qualified Anatomical Pathology Technician to join the mortuary team at Chesterfield Royal Hospital as the Deputy Mortuary Manager.

The post has been established to support and deputise for the Mortuary Service Manager & work within the team of APT's and MEO's in the organisation of a safe, secure, effective and comprehensive mortuary, post mortem and Medical Examiner's office/service for the needs of the Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the wider community.

This post is provided by Derbyshire Pathology, a contracted joint venture between Chesterfield Royal Hospital and University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

The Medical Examiner's Service provides extra scrutiny within the death certification process and help to deliver improvements with the review of mortality data. A national implementation of ME services is underway with the non-statutory element currently and the statutory component to be rolled out in September 2024.

Main duties of the job

All mortuary staff play a part in the death certification process; the APT's will be pivotal in helping to shape this service by providing technical assistance, dissection skills and input to the post mortem examination service where required; they will also be undertaking external examinations of deceased as applicable to the Medical Examiner's Services, where appropriate and work alongside the MEO's who will provide a specific conduit for bereaved families to raise concerns about the care provided prior to the death of a loved one and highlight any areas of good practice.
