Job summary
To provide an excellent administration and clerical service on MIU reception maintaining all admissions, discharges, transfers and enquiries as well as offering a friendly, polite and personal point of contact for patients and families.
Act as a first point of contact for MIU queries, demonstrating problem solving skills, common sense, good communication skills and empathy. To work under pressure and with varying workload.
Work in an efficient, flexible, supportive and approachable way to deal with constantly changing priorities and demands.
Maintain the quality of own work at a high standard.
Main duties of the job
To carry out a basic triage of patients booking in taking into account severity of complaint and ensure clinical staff aware of their arrival as necessary
Work autonomously and without direct supervision to prioritise and complete the workload, using established practices and procedures, seeking senior support if appropriate.
Communicate effectively in order to process accurate information from patients and clinical staff.
On a daily basis the need to communicate with patients, & clinical staffwhich involves dealing with anxious patients and people with cultural or language difficulties as well as special needs and hearing impairments.
Provide empathy when dealing with highly sensitive areas.
Tact and diplomacy regularly required with those under the influence of drugs or alcohol and those who are rude, aggressive or distressed.
To communicate with multidisciplinary teams and outside agencies i.e. police, armed forces, prison officers
