We are aspiring to become an STP training centre and to participate in the Higher Specialist Scientific Training scheme.

The Radiotherapy Physics Department provides a range of clinical scientific and technical services within the Cancer Business Unit. The services include providing and checking radiotherapy treatment plans for patients, advising clinical staff on radiotherapy physics issues, measuring patient received doses and radiotherapy treatment equipment output, ensuring the safety of patients and staff in an environment which involves high levels of ionising radiation, ensuring equipment is operating safely and accurately, investigating complex faults in radiotherapy equipment and the evaluation, selection, procurement, installation and acceptance testing of equipment.
The Head of the Radiotherapy Physics Department directs these highly specialist scientific, technical and clinical services, leading strategic developments to the service in response to the changing clinical practices, technology and challenges of radiotherapy. This is a specialist role, with the freedom to initiate action within broad scientific principles.
