Job summary

We have a secondment opportunity.

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual to join the Lung Cancer Team at our Burton Site to cover for a period of maternity leave.

The Lung Cancer Team at Burton consists of Lung Cancer Nurse Specialists, a Lung Cancer Navigator and an Administrative Support Assistant.

We are looking for an excellent team player and communicator who demonstrates a strong commitment to patient centred care and a desire to contribute to high quality, innovative service provision and development.

You should be efficient and clinically effective whilst maintaining patients' privacy and dignity. This role will enable you to support patients and their families with their initial diagnosis, treatment options and follow-up care. You will work closely with all members of the multi-disciplinary team attending weekly meetings, supporting respiratory and oncology clinics.

We are looking for someone with oncology/respiratory experience, who is keen to experience working at specialist nurse level. Good communication skills and organisational skills are essential. You will need to be a team player and be flexible and dynamic in supporting this ever-developing service.

You will be involved in supporting patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings. This involves supporting patients undergoing diagnostic tests, providing up to date information and support surrounding a lung cancer diagnosis, symptom management and emotional/psychological support.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work within the lung cancer nursing team and also closely with oncology/respiratory consultants and other members of the multi-disciplinary team, supporting patients and their families along their lung cancer pathway providing information and effective communication throughout.

The post holder will be instrumental in co-ordinating the patients' journey, liaising with other departments to ensure an efficient and timely experience for the individual patient.

You will liaise with district nursing services/GPs/ palliative care teams as needed to provide a seamless coordinated pathway for patients and support of their relatives.
