Job summary

We are delighted to offer an opportunity to join our specialist palliative nursing and medical team on the Nightingale Macmillan Unit as a NMU Palliative care, Clinical Nurse Specialist based at Royal Derby Hospital(RDH) . The NMU palliative care CNS will provide specialist palliative care support for patients and those important to them within the Nightingale Macmillan Unit.

This is delivered via face to face contact on the ward, or by supporting the palliative nursing and medical team in decision making regarding best treatments. In addition to patient care, a key element of this role will be to deliver education (both formal & informal) to members of the multi-disciplinary team and to drive service improvement.

Main duties of the job

You will hold a joint caseload of patients with various diagnosis who have complex specialist palliative care needs. You will work alongside their extended care team providing expert advice and support in order to maintain the patients quality of life and allow them to be cared for in a place of their choosing.

You will be expected to be able to carry out Independent Nurse Prescribing. and to enhance your role, an ability to carry out clinical decision making is desirable or be willing to work towards this study in due course.You will have Significant post qualification experience or equivalent level of expertise within Specialist Palliative Care. An excellent knowledge of symptom management is essential, as is the ability to teach and support others.

You will be required to Communicate highly complex condition related, sensitive information to patients/relatives and have a sensitive and empathetic approach. In return you will join an experienced and supportive team who share your passion to improve palliative and end of life care
