Job summary
An exciting opportunity has become available for an Occupational therapist or Physiotherapist to join a large dedicated and experienced Hand Therapy Team.
The team works collaboratively within the Hand Unit, which currently has 11 hand consultants, 3 nurse practitioners and 2 Hand Therapy Practitioners. The layout of the hand unit was designed to be integrated with therapists and nurses and Doctors all working alongside each other in clinics. This facilitates MDT working.
We see a variety of trauma and elective patients and use a range of therapeutic techniques including thermoplastic and off the shelf splints, pressure garments, ultrasound, mobilisation exercises, mirror box therapy and the Primus work simulator and MULE. Services are provided to in-patients and outpatients, on an individual and group basis.
It is essential to have a good knowledge of upper limb & hand anatomy, physiology and hand conditions and also skills in hand assessment and treatment techniques.It is a fast paced environment and so it will be necessary to have good prioritisation, delegation and time management skills. It will also be necessary to work flexibly. The hours are in line with the service needs and will include long days.
Main duties of the job
We are a motivated and dynamic group who are keen to continue to develop. As a Hand Unit we are committed to encourage and promote further learning and development and as a result have input into teaching on a variety of different courses as well as in service training sessions. In addition to the general courses that we hold we run and present on BAHT level 1 and 2 accredited courses.
We also support members of the team to attend relevant external courses and conferences with active involvement presenting at national and international meetings.The post will require post qualification experience in an acute NHS hospital setting, of which some experience in MSK or upper limb work is essential.
This post will require working as an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team, demonstrating excellent communication skills.As this is a senior position we are looking for therapists that are able to evidence where they have delivered on projects and can demonstrate a dedication and commitment to a role and the development of a department and can show that they have actively contributed to moving a department forwards.
