Job summary
University Hospitals of Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust is looking to recruit a General Medicine Consultant as part of a planned expansion of the Consultant team based at Royal Derby Hospital.
We have the flexibility to provide a bespoke job plan that encompasses your academic, teaching or research interests.
We can also offer an annualised job plan, LTFT, relocation and incentive packages.
It is expected that the appointee will work:
- Monday to Friday. General Medical wards.
- A standard day on a General Medical ward involves leading a daily MDT board round at 09:00-09:30, followed by a full ward round, from 09:30-12:00. Afternoon board round and review of results and new/unstable patients from 1530-16:30.
- 1 General Medicine outpatient clinic per week.
- The candidate will work an annualised total of 8 weekends per year, on the General Medical wards, (0900-1300, Saturday and Sunday). They will also be expected to work 1 or 2 bank holidays.
- Together with consultant colleagues, be responsible for teaching and training of undergraduate medical students and junior medical staff.
The Department of General Medicine is a recent initiative to enhance the standard of care provided to adult in-patients who have complex multi-system disease, in whom a holistic general approach is required, or those with general medical conditions whose illness is not better managed by other single organ focused specialties.
Main duties of the job
- Delivery of high quality, evidence based care and treatment to patients with General Medicine conditions.
- Mentorship, training and clinical supervision of doctors in training and medical students.
- Reviewing practice in line with local/ national/ international guidance, development and implementation of local policies and involvement with clinical governance.
- Responsible for the professional supervision, training & management of junior medical staff, carrying out teaching, examination & accreditation duties as required.
- Provision of on-call rota commitments, as indicated in the enclosed job plan.
