Job summary

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Consultant Cardiologists to join a current team of 17 highly performing and productive consultant colleagues at the University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust. Preferred subspecialty interests are, cardiac imaging including advance echocardiography, cardiac CT and cardiac MRI, Heart failure, EP & Devices, Inherited Cardiac Conditions and ACHD. The successful applicant(s) will help in development of services within the remit of their sub-specialist interest with opportunities to develop research interests.

The Derby & Burton Heart centre is one of the largest non-surgical units in the UK with a catchment more than 1m population throughout Derbyshire and East Staffordshire.

Applicants for fixed term Locum Consultants contracts will also be considered.

Post to be commenced as soon as possible.

Main duties of the job

UHDB offers state of the art facilities for investigation and management of cardiac disease. Two modern cardiac catheterization laboratories at derby site deliver 24/7 PPCI and 1350 PCI p.a with IVUS, OCT, rotablation, IABP, Complex Devices and CTO programme. A third cat lab at Burton is dedicated for diagnostic angiography and Brady pacemaker implantation. There are plans to replace existing Cath labs and development of third Cath lab on RDH Site. UHDB benefits from a large and busy clinical measurement department fully accredited for trans-thoracic echocardiography by the British Society of Echocardiography with expanding TOE and DSE services. The cross-sectional cardiac imaging services are provided in partnership with radiology department with modern CT(a latest 16cm detector cardiac CT is due to be installed in summer 2023) and MRI scanners. There is a 13-bedded coronary care unit, ambulatory heart failure unit, day-case unit and a 30-bedded dedicated cardiology ward. A full range of medical specialties are available across. We enjoy excellent relationships and MDT meetings with the regional cardiothoracic centres at Glenfield Hospital, Leicester and Trent Cardiac centre, Nottingham. We are a major teaching centre for medical undergraduates from the University of Nottingham with an excellent record of recruitment to NIHR portfolio cardiovascular clinical trials.

We aim to expand our specialist cardiac imaging service in guidance with of NICE CG95. The successful candidate will develop a busy general cardiology practice and support rapidly expanding heart failure services, while developing a sub-speciality clinical interest in cardiac imaging with a focus on advance echocardiography and contribute to expanding cross- sectional cardiac imaging services. Responsibilities will include a 1:6 / 1:10 on-call rota for general cardiology including management of patients on CCU and the dedicated cardiology ward (cross site). There is no general medicine commitment for either post.
