Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced individual to join the Head and Neck Team as a Band 7 Clinical Specialist for the Tracheostomy service.
This post requires the successful individual to work with Head and Neck Team in managing a group of patients with a long-term tracheostomy. They will be a point of contact for patients and relatives.
This post will cover training and support to Homes and Community services and will require the post holder to travel to patients homes to perform Tracheostomy changes following Consultant assessment preventing hospital visit. They will be responsible for Tracheostomy changes in the clinic area and work outside surgery division assisting with decannulation of patients following strict protocols.
The candidate will be expected to assist in the effective management of early discharge, admission prevention, safe care within the hospital and training of staff in emergency areas.
You will have the opportunity to shape and develop future services within the Trust. Some SIFT work will be expected in educating medical students.
Experience of Tracheostomy care is essential with the necessary training for changing and decannulation provided if necessary, to bring the candidate up to the required level.
This post is open to Registered Nurses and AHP's who meet the essential criteria.
Main duties of the job
- Working as an independent specialist with your own caseload
- Being the point of contact on discharge for patients and relatives
- Changing Tracheostomies as required in the clinic setting
- Changing of Tracheostomy within the community setting
- Working with consultant bodies in decannulation of patients outside of Head and Neck
- Assisting where required with the safe early discharge of patients
- Act as a resource of specialist knowledge and information for members of the Trust multi-disciplinary team
- Training of staff within the Trust regarding safe care
- Training of staff external to the trust to allow safe discharge
- Participate in and contribute to service improvement
- Liaise with different staff groups both internal and external to the department to enhance patient pathways
- Participate in peer review and patient feedback programmes to improve experience
- Develop protocols for community working including within patients home
