Job summary

We are looking for an ambitious, motivated person with excellent people skills with aseptic and supervisory experience to work in our aseptic units within the pharmacy department at the Royal Derby Hospital.

At RDH, most intravenous medicines and chemotherapy are manufactured by highly skilled pharmacy staff in a quality controlled, environmentally monitored aseptic units.

You will be part of the team that makes sure all work is completed and that the aseptic process is conducted in compliance with current Standard Operating Procedures following the principles of GMP.

You will have excellent communication and organisational skills and the desire to provide a high quality, safe, effective and efficient service to our patients.

The successful applicant will become part of a team working within both a satellite Aseptic unit and a licensed Aseptic unit offering a high quality service to both internal and external customers.

The suitable applicant should be highly motivated and have excellent attention to detail. They should be organised and able to prioritise work effectively showing excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Main duties of the job

Aseptically preparing medicines which could include parenteral nutrition for adults and babies, batches of intravenous medicines, regional infusions and chemotherapy

Ensuring compliance with all local and departmental practices including Standing Operating Procedures (SOP), GMP, COSHH and all Trust policies and procedures and supervising team compliance

Supporting the management, development and delivery of the aseptic service, including the workplace supervision of the day to day running of the service and workflow with management of the assembly, initial check and transfer processes

Responsibility for the maintenance schedule of the contingency aseptic areas

Supporting the Chief Technicians with service development, including aseptic related SOPs and worksheets

Supporting the Chief Technicians and to work closely with the Education and Training team to deliver training to all staff groups, within aseptic areas, and monitoring validations and assessments

Final checking of aseptic products made under the Manufacturer's Specials Licence

Undertaking operational pharmacy practice to remain competent, support the service and to satisfy the requirements for professional development and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council
