Job summary

The Minor Injuries Unit based within Burton Queens accident and emergency department is a Nurse/Paramedic -led service open 7am to 12pm 7 days per week, for those suffering from minor injuries or minor illnesses - and no appointments are necessary.

Patients are assessed, diagnosed, treated and discharged by highly experienced Emergency Practitioners (EPS).

The nursing staff have access to X-ray facilities during X-ray opening times for agreed, appropriate referrals.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be an autonomous practitioner, who is able to ensure responsibility and accountability for patient care. They must be knowledgeable, skilled and competent to examine, assess, investigate, diagnose, treat, advise and discharge / refer patients presenting with a range of minor injuries as outlined in the departmental protocols for Emergency Practitioners.

The ideal candidate will be:

  • A nurse /AHP who is a qualified autonomous practitioner and has experience in working in urgent or emergency department settings.
  • Experienced in managing a wide range of patients presenting with injuries.
  • Keen to develop your scope of practice and depth of knowledge and skills.
  • Wish to be part of an exceptional Minor injuries team

  • Significant post registration experience
  • Evidence of management

  • Paediatric experience
  • Wound closure- including suturing
