Job summary

This is a great opportunity to join the pharmacy team at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton.

This new & exciting role will allow you to help shape how to treat patients with hyperlipidaemia across Derbyshire. Working alongside specialist clinicians, nursing staff & within primary care you will provide clinical pharmacy service that utilises your independent prescribing skills to assist the team to ensure high quality, safe and timely management of patients.

As a motivated and enthusiastic clinical pharmacist, you will be supported to develop and implement your own ideas to ensure optimal pharmaceutical care for our patients. You will also have the opportunity to effectively contribute to the leadership, coordination, governance and development of the lipidology services across Derbyshire.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensuring the quality, accuracy and safety of prescribing in lipidology service.
  • Deliver prescribing clinics for the RDH lipidology service.
  • Attend MDT meetings to provide clinical advice and implementation of prescribing decisions, promoting use of Trust and national clinical guidelines and optimising patient medication where possible.
  • Initiate Pharmacy support in primary care: education, CVD risk stratification and optimising lipid management.
  • Develop a patient and public involvement group (PPI) to expand engagement and reach around CVD prevention with a focus on lipid management, in areas of high health deprivation.

This post is based at the Royal Derby Hospital. Travel to other UHDB hospitals & primary care practices will be required to fulfil the requirements of this role.

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written to communicate with a broad spectrum of people (from senior Division managers to members of the public). Able to articulate information and present clearly to healthcare staff, patients and members of the public.
  • Ability to influence senior & junior healthcare staff (pharmacy, medical, nursing staff and managers) e.g. therapeutic decisions.
  • Demonstrable leadership skills - role model for clinical pharmacists.

Knowledge, training and experience

Essential

  • Vocational Master's Degree in Pharmacy plus additional demonstrable pre-registration training, portfolio-based experience and final examination.
  • PG Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent
  • Significant post-registration hospital practice experience including specialist clinical pharmacy practice in a relevant area.
  • Wide-ranging clinical pharmacy experience and expert knowledge and ability to use research findings to develop services and patient care.
  • Non-medical prescribing qualification within specialist area
  • Statutory regulatory membership of the General Pharmaceutical Council.

  • Higher degree e.g. Masters, DPharm or management.
